The ham used in Croque Monsieur is usually carefully selected to ensure a great taste and good quality. Ingredients :

  • 2 Tbsp Butter
  • 2 Tbsp Flour
  • 1 1/2 Cups Indomilk Fresh Milk
  • A Pinch Each of Salt, Freshly Ground Pepper, Nutmeg, or More to Taste
  • 1/4 Cup Grated Green Valley Parmesan Cheese
  • 8 Slices of French or Italian Loaf Bread
  • 12 Ounces Ham, Sliced
  • Dijon Mustard

How to Make :

  • Preheat the oven to temperature 200oC
  • Make the béchamel sauce. Melt the butter in a small saucepan over medium/low heat until it starts to bubble. Add flour and cook, stirring frequently, about 2 minutes. Add milk slowly, stirring continuously, cook until thick. Remove from the fire. Add salt, pepper and nutmeg. Mix Parmesan Cheese. set aside.
  • Place the bread slices on a baking sheet and toast in the oven for a few minutes on each side, until lightly toasted. For extra flavor, you can spread butter on the slices of bread before toasting them. (Alternatively, you can make the sandwiches as in step four and grill them on the griddle, finishing them in the broiler with the bechamel sauce.
  • Lightly brush part of the roast slices with mustard. Top with another slice of toast.
  • Lightly brush the toast sheets with mustard. Top with another slice of toast.
  • Spoon the bechamel sauce over the top of the sandwich. Sprinkle with the remaining Green Valley Parmesan Cheese. Place on grill plate. Bake in the oven for 5 minutes, then turn off the heat and bake for another 3 to 5 minutes, until the cheese topping is bubbly and browned.
